I am a twenty-something girl on a journey to find herself while getting lost in the beauty of the world.
I live and work in Des Moines, Iowa. No, I did not grow up on a farm. And yes, there are people of color in Iowa.
I am a lover of rain, sweets, singing, sports (mainly the Iowa State Cyclones), travel, new experiences, making friends, and most importantly, smiling. I enjoy the simple things.
I do not claim to be an expert on anything. This blog is all about me sharing my experiences, and are solely my own thoughts.
Why 'Blackbird of Promise'?
I love Maya Angelou. "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" is one of my favorite books. In the dedication of that book, Dr. Angelou dedicates it to her son and "to all the strong black birds of promise who defy the odds and gods and sing their song." This blog is about me defying the odds presented to me and singing MY song.
